Tonga soa ! Welcome to Antananarivo ! Upon your arrival at Ivato International Airport, a member of our team will greet you with a sign bearing your name and transfer you to your hotel for check-in and overnight stay in the capital. Should you arrive early, take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the city, perhaps visiting the vibrant Analakely market. Your adventure will officially begin with a brief meeting at the hotel the following morning.

We embark on the long journey westward, a scenic 8-hour drive to Miandrivazo, a small town that marks the beginning of your Tsiribihina River adventure. During the journey, relax with a book or connect with your fellow travellers. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and attend an essential briefing about the upcoming 3-day river cruise. Afterward, you may have some free time to purchase any necessary supplies, followed by rest in preparation for tomorrow’s exciting day.

Meals during your river excursion are included, but drinks and gratuities for
your river crew are not. Meals in Bekopaka are at your own expense. It’s
recommended to budget approximately 100-120 Euros for meals and non-included
services for this portion of the journey. For the river camping experience,
bring a sleeping bag (a basic blanket is provided) or sleep sheet, towel, and
waterproof jacket. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat are also highly
recommended.
After an early breakfast, we drive 35 kilometers to Masiakampy, where a traditional boat will be waiting to transport you along the Tsiribihina River. Depending on water levels, the departure point may vary.
These flat-bottomed boats, originally used to transport tobacco, offer a comfortable and unique way to navigate the river and explore the remote western reaches of Madagascar. Over the next few days, enjoy wildlife spotting along the riverbanks, easy walks to hidden waterfalls, and visits to rural villages. The afternoon features a trek to a beautiful waterfall, followed by the establishment of camp on a large sandbank.
The next two nights will involve a simple wild camping experience, with sleeping mats and one blanket provided. Please note that there are no bathroom facilities; a bush toilet will be available for the next three days, and fresh water will be limited on the boat.

Continue your river adventure with a full day of relaxation and exploration. Wave to the locals on the riverbanks as we navigate through the peaceful waters. This area of Madagascar, with its lack of roads, offers a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of its people. Keep an eye out for herds of zebu crossing the river, as well as bird species such as bee-eaters, herons, and egrets.
Along the way, we’ll stop at a village for a walk and have a chance to spot lemurs on a short trek. At the end of the day, we’ll set up camp at a village on the riverbank, where you can enjoy a campfire, traditional Malagasy music, and dancing with the local community.

Disembark from the boat and bid farewell to the crew. We’ll make a brief stop at Belo sur Tsiribihina to explore the market and enjoy lunch before continuing on the 3.5-hour drive to Bekopaka. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax and refresh in preparation for the next day’s exploration of the Small Tsingy.

Rise early and prepare for a day of exploration. Today, you’ll trek through the Small Tsingy in Bemaraha National Park for 4 to 5 hours. Navigate a maze of limestone formations resembling a rocky forest, and stop at two lookout points to admire the stunning views and capture memorable photos.
In the afternoon, enjoy a peaceful float down the Manambolo River on a wooden pirogue, under the dramatic rock cliffs. Later, take a short stroll through caves adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, and the eerie tombs of the Vazimba, believed to be the first inhabitants of Madagascar.

Prepare for an early start as we head to the Great Tsingy for a full day of adventure. The early morning departure will help us avoid both the heat and larger crowds. Once a largely unexplored area, the Great Tsingy is now more accessible thanks to a network of bridges and climbing aids.
As you trek through the dramatic limestone formations, brace yourself for thrilling experiences, including crossing a suspended bridge over a steep drop. This is not for the faint-hearted ! For wildlife enthusiasts, keep your eyes peeled for lemurs, birds, and reptiles, including the endemic Madagascar iguana and the Antsingy leaf chameleon.

Today is a long travel day. Cross the Manambolo and Tsiribihina rivers by ferry before arriving in the tranquil town of Morondava. In the evening, enjoy a stunning sunset at the Avenue of the Baobabs, where you’ll witness the towering Adansonia grandidieri trees, some of which are up to 800 years old. As the sky turns pink and yellow, the silhouette of these ancient trees will leave you in awe.
